Mandatory fingerprint background checks for nurse's aides.

A bill to require mandatory fingerprint background checks for nurse's aides at Oklahoma nursing homes, clears the House.

But Representative Mike Ritze of Broken Arrow says it could further burden nursing centers which are already financially strapped.

"I polled probably six of them in the last week," Ritze told House members. "Every one of the facilities there said no, no more fees. No more taxes, no more regulations. "

However, Representative Jeannie McDaniel of Tulsa says the mandatory fingerprint checks come from an existing $19 fee.

""I think this helps professionalize the people working in this business," McDaniel said.

The House approved McDaniel's bill 78 to 12, and it goes on to the governor's desk.
