Heart disease the cause, officials say.

Oklahoma City Zoo officials on Tuesday announced the death of a Western lowland gorilla named Bom Bom. Bom Bom was a 36-year-old silverback who died Monday after going into cardiac arrest. A necropsy concluded heart disease as the official cause of death. Bom Bom was diagnosed with heart disease two years ago and had been on heart medication. Cardiac disease is a major cause of death for adult gorillas. Bom Bom arrived at the Oklahoma City Zoo in 2002 from the Audubon Zoo in New Orleans.
