State Superintendent addresses city council on new A to F grading system for schools.

The new A-to-F grading system for public schools provides greater accountability and transparency, according to State Superintendent Janet Barresi.

"We must shine a bright light," Barresi told the Oklahoma City Council on Tuesday. "It is important we close gaps, particularly for low-performing students and students that are in all different types of demographic groups across the state."

Barresi also said digital learning must be embraced, to engage students and allow them access to a broad spectrum of courses.

"We simply must have information on how our schools are performing. We must be able to become part of the conversation around that. And indeed, since we have issued the A through F grade card, it has done just that," Barresi said.

Barresi also said successful teachers in every classroom are essential for meaningful education reform.
