Lawmaker makes prediction.
The decades of the state Legislature approving bond issues are over, according to House District 54 Representative Paul Wesselhoft.
He said a proposed 25-year, 180-million-dollar bond issue to renovate the State Capitol building would result in 70-million-dollars in interest.
"Let's make our children pay for it. Let's make our grandchildren pay for it. That's what we've been doing on a national level. The big difference is, the federal government has a printing press. They can print out dollar bills, as many as they want," Wesselhoft told KTOK.
In a recent commentary for the McCarville Report Online, Wesselhoft said he believes lawmakers can find money to appropriate for such projects, including completion of the unfinished American Indian Cultural Center in south Oklahoma City.
Wesselhoft said this upcoming 54th state Legislature is even more conservative than the previous one, which means most proposed bond issues are likely to be killed.
