More than a little disappointed smoking-related bill failed to pass Senate committee.

Some direct words from Oklahoma City Councilman Ed Shadid, a doctor, after a bill to allow cities and towns to ban smoking in public areas died in a Senate committee.

"When thousands and thousands of physicians ask for something to be done and then you tell them, in this manner, not just that you're going to kill the bill but to kill it in such a way that you can't bring it up again for two years is so inflamatory, so offensive."

Shadid says state lawmakers are pushing the medical community too far, as many doctors are urging the passage of tougher smoking laws.

Shadid made his remarks during today's meeting of the Oklahoma City Council.
