Two dead, one critically injured.....
People from Yukon and Edmond saying that they heard the explosion early today when an Eagle Med helicopter crashed, exploded, and burned in between a couple of buildings of the St. Ann Nursing Home on Britton Road, near Rockwell Avenue and Council Road.
It happened shortly before 6 a.m. as early reports indicate the Eagle Med chopper had apparently taken off from Integris Baptist Hospital along Northwest Expressway and was heading to Watonga to pick up a patient.
Oklahoma City Fire Department Dep. Chief Marc Woodard tells NewsRadio 1000 KTOK that two people aboard the copter died at the scene, while a third victim was taken to a local hospital in critical condition.
Nearby resident Raymond Heckard told us he was at NW 23rd Street and Council Road and that when the helicopter went down, it sounded like a large clap of thunder.
No word yet on the identities of the two who died. We do know that Dep. Chief Woodard and others on the scene said the helicopter pilot did a great job of steering the copter away from the nursing home and other residential areas.
Reports are that officials from the National Transportation Safety Board and the Federal Aviation Administration are on the way to Oklahoma City to begin their investigation into a possible cause of that crash.
