Four In Oklahoma make final list.
The Federal Aviation Administration announced Friday it will close 149 air traffic control towers at small airports around the country, including Oklahoma, because of budget cuts. There were six airport towers in Oklahoma originally slated to be closed, but four made the final list. Those include Wiley Post airport in Oklahoma City, and the airport towers in Lawton, Norman and Stillwater. The airports will remain open but pilots will be left to coordinate takeoffs and landings among themselves over shared a radio frequency. The airport towers in Enid and Ardmore are being spared.
