Wants 'singular focus' on lawsuit reform package.
Governor Mary Fallin on Monday issued an executive order calling for a special session of the Oklahoma Legislature, to begin Tuesday, September 3rd. The order calls on lawmakers to re-institute components of House Bill 1603, the lawsuit reform package that was ruled unconstitutional by the State Supreme Court for violating the 'single subject' rule. Fallin wants lawmakers to separate the law into different bills, reinstating the policy without violating the State Constitution. She says the bill was designed to reduce the number of frivolous lawsuits and medical malpractice claims filed in Oklahoma.
