Officials say shutdown will be extremely disruptive.
In a statement from Tinker AFB, officials say they are currently working through the process of shutting activities impacted by the present lapse in appropriations. All military personnel will remain on regular duty status, but approximately 2,900 of Tinker's 14,000 civilian employees will be furloughed until such time as federal funding is resumed. "Every member of the Tinker team is important to accomplishing our mission," the statement reads. "This shutdown puts severe hardship on an already stressed workforce. We will use every available resource to assist those impacted by the furlough. We must be good wingmen and help each other through these uncertain times. We remain hopeful that the budget uncertainty will be resolved quickly."
